A Legacy Rooted in Laurel

Laurel Legacy Foundation was established in 2024 by the Spurlock family, whose roots in the town of Laurel span more than 70 years and four generations. What began as a deep personal connection to a place has grown into a community-centered nonprofit dedicated to preserving Laurel’s heritage while building a sustainable and vibrant future for generations to come.

Despite the challenges of economic decline and population loss, the town has remained resilient. We are now focused on restoring the dignity of shared spaces and strengthening the social fabric of Laurel through strategic investments and community-led initiatives.

The Beating Heart of Laurel

Today, the former high school stands as a vibrant hub of activity, hosting sporting events, athletic and wellness clubs, and serving as the home for our local food pantry. This resurgence of the community center is the cornerstone of our renewed spirit, providing a space where generations come together for health, connection, and opportunity.
